Hey everyone! This is Leontes with Sirlin Games. Many of you stopped by Frosty Faustings last weekend and played in our very first major. I was the TO for this event and I also got to commentate for Top 8 on the MadCityGG stream with the legendary Kitana Prime (thanks so much for your help!) We managed to raise a ridiculous $2000 pot bonus for this event, proving that there’s a tournament scene for our game just waiting to emerge.
I wanted to congratulate the Top 8 for their fantastic performances, as well as some other big names who barely didn’t make the cut this time.
7th:
Punch Girls | fee bee
GN|BYOFG Slusho
5th:
MrMKL
Sente
4th:
Illusion LostSoul
3rd:
Tidazi
2nd:
therookhugger
1st:
RBeyond|bM CWheezy
Notably, our Grand Finals was an amazing set between CWheezy and therookhugger, as was to be expected as the #1 and #2 seeds in the tournament. Their dominance of the online tournaments throughout Early Access and through launch has been absolutely staggering, so it was no surprise to see them both at the top.
Tidazi, MrMKL, Sente and fee bee are all names you’ll recognize if you hang out in our Discord; I spent a lot of time hanging out with all of these folks at our casuals stations in the Botanic Ballroom (and getting some great offline sets in, too). ErickDRedd (top community fundraiser/supporter), XagrandK (who took 2nd in Windjammers!), Argenrost (multigame god) and Royale round out the familiar faces in the tournament.
Perhaps most impressive is the incredible run by Illusion LostSoul, who took 4th in our tournament after losing to none other than NY ChrisG in Winners side. LostSoul then defeated ChrisG later to barely make the cut to top 8 (also, ChrisG beat LostSoul earlier that evening in the Samurai Shodown tournament, so his runback in Fantasy Strike was well deserved!)
BDG Nicky also put up a great showing, taking 9th place as surprise competitor Slusho beat him in pools to make it to the Loser’s side of top 8. Nicky has shown his love for our game on several occasions, and missing the cut to top 8 was especially difficult for him :( He ended up placing well in Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat 11, but he told me specifically that getting better at Fantasy Strike was one of his main goals for Frosty Faustings. I’ve no doubt you’ll get there; you’re a monster in any game you play!
Thanks for reading, attending, or watching the event last weekend! It was my pleasure to TO for you guys. Hopefully we’ll get to do it again in the near future…
If you want to catch the VOD of the tournament for yourself, you can watch the top 8 here (or in this post, below).
We’ll see you next time!
